THE WORLD OF TOURISM

Warming up. Read and dramatize the following mini-dialogues. Make up your own short situations.

A. Do You Like Travelling?

Sheila: Kevin, do you like travelling?

Kevin: Yes, of course. I do like travelling. This is a good way to learn about new countries or places, to see many sights, to meet new people and just to relax.

Sheila: I see. As for me, I enjoy travelling too. I like excursions and city tours. But it depends on season I think. I prefer travel when it’s warm. To my mind, spring and summer is the best time for that.

Kevin: And what about winter?

Sheila: I don’t like to be cold. So I prefer staying at home. And besides I have lots of work during this period.

Kevin: But you can travel to warmer places in winter, for example to Florida.

Sheila: If my schedule is not so busy I will think about it.

B. Talking about Different Types of Travelling

Pete: Lora, what types of travelling do you know?

Lora: Well, let me see. There are plenty of them. Travelling by train, by plane, by car, by bicycle. Sailing, city tours, and shop-tours.

Pete: And what is your favorite type?

Lora: My favorite type of travelling is travelling by car. I enjoy driving my car, listening to music and seeing different places at the same time. Besides I can stop whenever I want and explore something that attracted me.

Pete: Yes, I agree with you. Travelling by car is very comfortable. I think this is for people who like drive and speed.

Lora: Right, I love it so much. And how about you? What is your favorite type of travelling?

Pete: I prefer travelling by ship.

Lora: That’s exciting! You are a person who prefers a real extreme.

Pete: Probably. I just enjoy the marine views. A sparkling water, splashing waves, a refreshing breeze, a picturesque panorama of a seacoast – and these are not all the advantages of voyage.

Lora: It sounds so wonderful. I would like to join you someday in a voyage. I’ve never experienced that.

Pete: No problem, Lora. I am going to sail in 2 weeks.

Lora: Definitely I will go with you.

Pete: Ok, it will be an amazing cruise.

C. The Best Place I Have Been to

Clair: Rachel, how was your trip to Las Vegas?

Rachel: It was fantastic! I think Las Vegas is the best place I have been to.

Clair: Do you really think so? What is so special about?

Rachel: Clair, you can’t imagine how magic Las Vegas is. The lights are so terrific, the casinos are wonderful, the streets are comfortable and the hotels are really cheap.

Clair: So what did you do there?

Rachel: I just had a wonderful rest, relaxed, spent money in its casinos and shopping malls. I went to many night clubs and bars and enjoyed the atmosphere of freedom and a fabulous life. They say that Las Vegas is fabulous, so it is true.

Chair: What impressed you most?

Rachel: This center of entertainment and big money is located in a desert! It looks so unbelievable.

Chair: Oh, exactly, it is located in Nevada in a desert area.

Rachel: Yes, you are right. And it is so hot there. But still I love this place.

Chair: I am glad that you had a very good rest.
